I spent the weekend with my wife in Memphis, just hanging out, eating bar-b-q an d drinking beer. There are so many great places to visit and to party in Memphis, Tennessee. It really is a great place to visit; quick to get to and not overly expensive.
On Friday night we had some sweet ribs at Blues City Cafe on Beale Street. This is the restaurant where Tom Cruise was first confronted by Ed Harris in "The Firm." The ribs fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. Just great! The beer is always cold as well. After dinner we went to "AutoZone Park," the home of the Memphis Red Birds. Triple AAA baseball with a laid back family atmosphere. After the game we had drinks on the roof of our hotel, "The Madison" on Front Street off the Mississippi River.
Saturday was unbelievable, we visited the National Civil Rights Museum on the site of the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King was assassinated. I was stunned when I turned the corner to the Museum, it was fascinating to see the famous balcony where King was gunned down by James Earl Ray. I'd seen it so many times in the news that I was enthralled with the story behind it, the visit was somber but left us with a new respect for the struggle to bring equal rights to the American south.
