Gregg has started his job in PA.. I'm SO sorry I prematurely posted the switch. I tried to give hints through Elton John. We were very excited, as this is the best job professionally that Gregg has had. Detroit is great and will always hold a special place in our heart, but I think after our first move we have decided it is time to move on. I don't want to ever say that we will never come back but right now it is not in our plans. It was with a heavy heart that we left Austin. What a great town! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lifestyle change. I could go on and on about it but suffice it to say it is one of my top retirement communities in the future. Not at all what I thought Texas was like.
We are in the process of moving. This time we have bought a house in Philly. It feels more like home. Oddly enough it is set up almost exactly as our Milford home. That was almost too kismet. It felt like home the second we toured it. Thank You to Pepper for setting us up with your Realtor.
We are in the process of selling our RO home. As I type we may be selling it. My parents will then buy our Milford home until they decide where they want to live. As most of you know they live in Key West in the winter.
We have invested in a few properties down there so if you know anyone interested please check out the sites. packer and Washington. We have 3 others that are being built to order.
Congratulations to Kelly and Aaron and their newest addition, as well as that great Stanley Cup. Good Luck in NY with the Rangers. Thank you for once again for giving us the opportunity to touch the prized cup. Gregg said that Noah had a blast at the party. Wish I could have been there.
Gregg is in town(in MI) now. He is visiting his mother who has been moved to hospice now. Gregg appreciates all of your well wishes and prayers. This is a very difficult time for us and your thoughts and prayers mean a lot to us. You all have given us so much support and well wishes that we hope some spill over onto your life. If anything we have learned this year , between Sabrina and Gail, is that you must live life to your fullest without regret. I hope that we can all live as fully and never have that feeling, "if only I had...."
Quick Hits: Gregg Henson, the always colorful one time co-host of Motor City Middays on hot talk WKRK-FM (97.1) is not returning to Detroit. The former sports guru from both WXYT-AM (1270) and WDFN has landed a sweet job as program director of Philadelphia’s newest all-sports station WPEN-AM (950), owned by Greater Media, which also owns classic rocker WCSX-FM (94.7), where Henson had his first job many moons ago.
We got what we believe is the final word on my mom's battle with brain cancer. There is nothing more that can be done, the cancer is too aggressive. Mom is essentially gone. She isn't able to speak or feed herself. She never wanted "extraordinary" measures taken to sustain her; we will honor her wishes and be by her side as we say goodbye to a lovely wife, mother and friend.
Monday afternoon I took Noah and Cooper to see mom, Cooper gave her a slobbery wet kiss and even in Mom's weakened state she managed a LARGE smile.
Interesting about my relationship with my mom is that it really didn't start to flourish until I moved out and into my own place at 20. We had our share of disagreement but she really started to become a great friend when I became responsible for myself. We would talk daily on the phone and visit often even after they moved from Troy to Palms, Michigan. Mom and Dad built their dream home in the early 90's and retired to life of relaxation in a house they built themselves.
I remember packing up my dogs and meeting them at a small park on Lake Huron for a picnic while our dogs played in the lake. I have so many great memories and traditions to pass onto the boys. My mother is a HUGE believer in family and I would like the kids to know what she was all about.
I remember the day she called me at work when I was just starting at WDFN. Mom never called work, never. But she was calling to tell me that our favorite dog "Friday" has been hit by a car. She was beside herself with grief. I think it took 2 hours to calm her, she loved her dog so much, always did. She is just such a sweet woman that it is hard to see her sad, needless to say she made up for the loss of our dog by adopting nearly every homeless dog and cat in Sanilac county. She loved dogs so much she was instrumental in opening Sanilac county's first and only NO KILL animal shelter. She worked there daily out of her love for dogs and cats.
I'm gonna miss her, we talked a lot and loved our relationship. I regret that I wasn't able to be there everyday through this tough time for her, I know she understood but I will never forgive those responsible for my absence in my mothers last months.
Sorry I haven 't posted in a while. There has been a lot going on.
As most of you know I have been hired as the PD and Show Host at WPEN, SportsTalk 950 (www.wpen.com) in Philadelphia. This is a great opportunity for me.
I haven't said much because I didn't want my friends and co-workers in Austin to feel badly that I left Texas so soon. I really enjoyed my time in Austin but the opportunity to be closer to my sick mother and a return to my home in the East was too much to pass up. Everybody knows it is an all day affair to fly to Detroit from Austin. You can't get a direct flight and sometimes there are multiple stops. Detroit is home, Philadelphia feels like my future home. As much as I liked Austin and the people we met, Philly feels like a place I can get comfortable and raise a family.
We are excited and feel like my return to Greater Media is the best possible scenario.
Hey Gregg, Just wanted to say MCM just isn't the same without you. Jay does an ok job but he doesn't have any of the flavor you do! We miss you up here man. Hope things are going good. Jake
