Herbstreit still thinks Les to Michigan could happen
I was checking out the Kirk Herbstreit video on ESPN.com and he still seems to think that the Les is staying at LSU stuff could be a "smokescreen." His opinion is based on the fact that he has great sources and that the hastily called press conference was simply to settle down the LSU team as they prepared to take on Tennessee in the SEC Title game. After all the LSU program was being raped at 10:00 a.m. this morning. The AD is retiring, the Defensive Coordinator Bo Pelini is leaving for Nebraska and Les Miles was slated to take the Michigan gig. This led Herbstreit to believe LSU was simply covering itself to get through the SEC Championship game today.
I'm not so sure what to believe. If Les Miles "loves" Michigan so much, why not officially meet with Bill Martin to at least make his case? Why all the talk about how he coveted the job if he really didn't want it according to the LSU AD? It is also worth noting that Les wasn't exactly a fan favorite in Baton Rouge until Michigan showed interest.
The whole thing is rather odd and I'm not convinced we have heard the last of Les Miles to Michigan. Remember, college coaches lie and deals "fall through." Les also played fast and loose with the truth when he left Oklahoma State so it isn't unprecedented that he would say he was staying and find a way to wiggle out to Ann Arbor.
I suspect Les will NOT end up at Michigan but after all the drama today, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
While we are discussing other possibilities, why not Bill Cowher?
