If you had to choose which team you would like to win a title, who would it be, the Piston or The Red Wings?
Personally, I think I would like to see the Red Wings win, I love the Pistons and the people at the Palace, but I really admire what Red Wing brass has done with this team since the last championship team broke up. Under difficult circumstances they have rebuilt the team and not missed a beat. What other franchise could lose Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan and Sergei Federov and be potentially BETTER? Zetterberg and Datsuyk are great players and may be even better than the Yzerman/Federov tandem. The Red Wings made a lot of smart moves since the salary cap was implemented, they are easily the class of the NHL. This teams needs a new arena and lower prices to gain Detroit's heart again.
The Pistons are in the same boat, they are doing a great job of infusing young talent with Affalo, Stuckey and Maxiell while keeping the core in tact, I think they are poised to be great for years to come with that kind of scouting and player development. Dumars has made a few high profile drafting mistakes, but he has recovered as well as anybody could expect from the draft debacles of Rodney White, Mateen Cleaves and Darko. Joe Dumars is a good judge of talent, maybe too good, his less impressive picks like Maxiell, Stucky and Tayson Prince are his most impressive accomplishments to date in my eyes.
So Detroit, which trophy do you covet most, the O'Brien or Stanley?
