After watching people line up outside of Joe Louis Arena to see Barack Obama speak, it made me wonder "why?" What is so exciting about watching yet another politician lie to you? Obama is the same guy who came to Detroit and promised to put many Detroiters out of work with his unrealistic "gas mileage dream"(the very same car companies that make Detroit run). Why would so many people line up to see another empty suit and I'm talking about all of them, McCain, Clinton and Obama. The modern day politician is nothing more than a snake oil salesman, why start trusting somebody now just because they look different than the usual suspects? The voter really needs to start looking at actions and not words. Even the Chinese are wary of his credentials and can't understand the pandemonium that follows him when he speaks.
Obama-mania has the feel of celebrity worship more than that of a politician who as history tells us, will say whatever he needs to say to get the gig.
I am not anti-Obama, I just don't understand the hysteria that follows the guy, he's a good speaker but I don't think he is a "great" speaker.
I liked one thing that Obama addressed, why not make Michigan the center of Energy in the USA. Check out this quote from the Sioux CIty Journal.
"An average of 4,500 construction jobs would be required over four years. With the refinery up and running, Hyperion pledges to create 1,826 full-time jobs at hourly wages of between $20 and $30"
The article discussed Sioux City's excitement over landing a the USA first refinery in 32 years. Wouldn't Detroit be a natural fit for a couple of new refineries and a research plant to discover new, renewable sources of energy? Energy is going to be big business in the years ahead, Michigan should pitch these job with tax incentive and the benefit of great research facilities at Michigan and MSU.

Hopefully Obama is serious about change, if he is, maybe listening to his message and worrying less about his delivery would benefit Michigan the most.
