Check out this picture of Lake Travis in Austin. I took it on Saturday while having a brew at Carlos and Charlies restaurant. It is interesting because of all the rain we have gotten in central Texas in the last month or so, Lake Travis is bursting at the seams.
The light colored area is actually the beach outside of the restaurant, it is completely flooded and actually swallowed up 3 cars during the downpour. The cars are still there, under water.
The rain is a pain but it is welcome to the residents of Austin as it breaks a pretty bad drought that had gripped the area since 2004. It is fascinating for me because when I left a year ago, the lake was at a record low for the summer months.
Most areas in the Austin area have nothing to worry about, however the communities that surround the three lakes and the Colorado River are in danger of flooding everyday. Glad I live in the northern suburbs where we have NO water.
