Sound familiar?  Remember when Chris Webber called Jamie and Gregg and had a meltdown attempting to defend Steve Fisher?  Chris was lying then and he is likely lying now.  Guy is and has always been a celf-centered, insecure loser!

Sorry Sparty, There Can’t Be Any Tobacco Road

After Michigan’s win against Michigan State last week in Ann Arbor there is growing belief that Michigan and Michigan State can create the Duke v. North Carolina rivalry in Michigan.  Sorry to say, I don’t believe there is much of a chance that both team will or can be long term “powers” in the same region.

I firmly believe that both schools can be good but not top ten national powers consistently at the same time.  It isn’t a coincidence that Michigan State’s football and basketball programs rose to power in the State of Michigan on the backs of a disastrous basketball scandal and an ill-advised football coaching hire.

All things being equal, and usually they aren’t, Michigan will always win the recruiting battle.  The brand is too large and the fan base too fanatical in the State of Michigan for MSU to have any long term dominance.  Most MSU fans are alumni and that simply won’t translate into long term, sustained success for the Spartans.

MSU won’t fall to the back of the pack anytime soon as they have a top basketball coach and a strong head football coach, but it is pretty apparent that Hoke and Beilein have stopped the Spartan run and are now in the process of returning Michigan to the top of the heap in-state.

Brady Hoke is hauling in a top 5 recruiting class in 2012 and John Beilein just scored the top high school Power Forward in American along with a top 5 consensus class.  Michigan is out-recruiting MSU and that simply shouldn't happen with the disarray that has been Michigan's football and basketball programs recently.

It will be more interesting between MSU and Michigan, but the MSU run is over.

Bryant Gumbel Calls NBA Comissioner "Plantation Overseer"

HBO Sports Host Bryant Gumbel dropped the nuclear race card on NBA Commissioner David Stern calling him a "modern plantation overseer."  Hard to believe anybody could think NBA players are "slaves" when the average NBA salary is $4 million bucks.

 

Isiah Thomas Wants Laimbeer in the Hall too...

The greatest Detroit Piston Isiah Thomas thinks Bill Laimbeer should be in the basketball hall of fame too.  Check out his comments in today's Detroit Free Press.  He is right, Laimbeer was intergral in the Piston titles in '89 and '90.  He needs to be inducted!  This is Isiah's quote from the Free Press!

Q:You guys are about to get your third Hall of Fame player of that team. Should people look at what you accomplished with even more respect?

A:And a fourth should come in Bill Laimbeer. Again, the last couple of years or so I've tried to be as outspoken about this as I can, but it seems like history is trying to rewrite itself and say that it was the Lakers, Celtics and Bulls. Sorry, I don't remember it that way. I don't remember the Bulls winning a championship in the '80s. It's marketed that way, it's talked about that way and it just seems like when you go back and look at the history books the facts don't bear that out. I speak from a factual point. People might not like what I'm throwing out, but the facts are that I believe we were the first team to start putting 30,000, 40,000, 50,000, 60,000 people in the stands.

 

Bill Laimbeer Should Be In The Basketball Hall of Fame!

It was announced this week that Dennis Rodman has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.  While Rodman's defensive ability should reserve a spot for him in Springfield, his former teammate Bill Laimbeer certainly should have been inducted first.

The Hall of Fame is reserved for the games best, not the games most notable and Rodman's inclusion is nothing short of a joke when compared to that of bad boy teammate Bill Laimbeer.

Laimbeer is the ONLY 10,000 point, 10,000 rebound guy NOT enshirned in the basketball hall of fame. His numbers far surpass those of Rodman and current hall of famer Willis Reed.  Laimbeer posted 10,400 rebounds and 13,000 points in sixteen NBA seasons, including 2 NBA titles and four all-star appearances while Reed scored 12,182 points and pulled down 8414 rebounds in 10 seasons with the Knicks.

The fact is, Laimbeer deserves to be in the Hall of Fame ahead of Reed and Rodman and it hasn't happened?  Why?  I suspect Laimbeer is not in the hall because he was a BWS, a "big white stiff." Laimbeer is seen in a negative manner by NBA "elite" because he was a lunch pail guy who did his job without being flashy on a team of "thugs." 

If you stood and applauded Rodman's inclusion into the basketball Hall of Fame, get beind Laimbeer....he was a great NBA player who deserves to be enshrined.

 

Florida High School Player Attacks Ref During Game!

Here is a video of a Florida High School basketball player attacking a referee last night.  The attack occurs at the 1:25 mark of the video after the ref give the kid a technical foul.

Oregon has a weird new basketball court!

The Oregon Ducks have a new basketball court.  They hope it will intimidate opponents. Oregon officials unveiled the floor of newly built Matthew Knight Arena on Friday, and to say the least the design lives up to the school's reputation for cutting-edge panache and flair. The court is framed on all sides by a forest of fir trees, an homage to the school's picturesque Pacific Northwest setting and to Oregon's 1939 national title team nicknamed "The Tall Firs."

Like the famed blue "Smurf Turf" at Boise State's football stadium, Oregon's forest floor is meant to be an iconic design that will immediately be recognizable to TV viewers nationwide. The design has already created a buzz, generating stories in local and regional papers and coverage from a variety of blogs.

 

Does every NBA player have a dance intro now?

Sorry, I get douche chills when I watch this video of Washington Wizard Rookie John Wall being introduced the other night.  Isn't is more than a little embarressing that every player in the league busts a move as they are introduced?  The NBA has become so low rent, this isn't "Soul Train" with the dance line, this is a professional sport.  Here is a video of Wall's introduction.  Seriously, are we out clubbin' or are we playing' ball?
